Adrenaline acid tartrate
Indications/Uses
Initial treatment of all anaphylactic reactions except that due to epinephrine itself. Cardiac stimulant in case of collapse, shock & anesth accidents. Useful as hemostatic in hemorrhage & prolongs action of infiltration anesth agent. Urticaria.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Severe case of anaphylactic shock Adult 0.5 mL of 1:1,000 soln in 10 mL saline IV. Bronchial asthma & bronchospasm 0.3-0.5 mL of 1:1,000 soln diluted SC. May be repeated every 20 min for 2-3 doses.
Contraindications
Cardiac arrhythmia, tachycardia of >140 bpm, severe HTN, narrow-angle glaucoma, during anesth w/ halogenated hydrocarbon or cyclopropane w/ local anesth of finger or toe, woman in labor, cardiac dilation & coronary insufficiency.
Special Precautions
CV disease, HTN, diabetes, hyperthyroidism. Pregnancy. Elderly.
Drug Interactions
Effects potentiated by diphenhydramine & antihistamines.
